My grandfather bought this new from The Aeolian Company (in NYC) on January 17, 1917. I have the original receipt.

It is unrestored.

The direct connection you have to this and your grandfather is very cool. Many of us collectors would kill to have such a piece in our collection. Good luck on the sell.

Is the turntable mat felt or velvet?

No judgment at all, but it's really sad to hear this is going to be lost from the original family at this late stage. I'm sure a huge number of us here would urge you to keep it if you possibly can.

Maybe his/her situation is like mine. I had a Vic XI that was a great uncle's, then my grandmother's, then mine. While visiting grandma, my cousin and I used to play records on it and dance around the basement like idiots. Great fun and great memories. It sparked my interest in phonographs and in music recorded 40 years before my birth. To my own surprise, I sold it in a Stanton Auction in 2022. I came to realize that otherwise it would eventually go to a cousin's kid/s to whom it would mean nothing. At best, they would sell it. At worst, it would be destroyed by neglect. This way, maybe some other nutty kids might have a chance at playing it and dancing around like fools.

Can you add an image of the receipt?
