When did Victor III start using Tab Brakes

When did Victor III start using Tab Brakes?

I have a fixer-upper with one and it's also missing the Data Plate. What would be an appropriate number range for this? If you have a correct badge, please let me know.

Another odd thing is, the top of the spindle is flat, not rounded. I have not taken it apart yet. It may be a part from another machine?

Any thoughts or information?

Thanks,
James.

That would be the Type B, April 3, 1913 to August 31, 1917. S/N 42002 to 48550 according to the Victor Data Book.

I have a ( or 2) V-lll tags. I know one is in the serial number 15000 range. I'll see if the other(s) are much different. Tim

Hi James,

The information that I gave you assumed that your machine has a 5/16” female crank and quad cut gears and spindle. The very end of the run of the Type A with the ¼” female crank and double cut gears and spindle were actually the first to get the tab brake, S/N 40054 to 41575. The Type C had a ⅜” male crank. Please let me know if your machine has a male crank and I can let you know the variations of Types C, D and E. I apologize for the incomplete information.

Good luck,
George

Thanks for the update.
The crank is female and receives ¼".
That does lower the percentage of finding the correct badge, 40054 to 41575.

James.
