A real heartbreak to see

I have seen many things that have made me sad that were ruined by a careless hand but, this is a real shame   . What would have been a very clean and straight Berliner funnel horn. Now, a useless mess. To add further injury, it is being sold with a Vic #2 .

No doubt a skilled tinsmith could rebuild/restore these pieces into one useable, and attractive, whole.

I saw that item on ebay. I wonder why people do things like that. I hope that horn can be repaired.

( Showing my ignorance here ) - the machine itself looks like a promising "back-mount" Victor, but that horn appears to be of front-mount configuration ?

I can't tell from the listing pics - did the horn get cut into two sections, or did it break apart at a solder-joint ?

That's a horn, probably from the mid-to-late 1890s, used on the very early Berliner models, including the "Improved Gramophone."

Some photos of a complete horn appear on this page -- http://www.wyattsmusical.com/pictures.html

(Click on images for blow-up photos)

From the looks of it, the horn was cut for god knows what reason!

Yes, it is sad to say that what would have been a great horn has been hack sawed into two...... . I almost want to cry. Now, I see it is no longer being sold with the Vic 2. The seller now thinks it is still big $$$$$. Even if you were to get it back together.....it would still be a repaired horn and I'm not sure that it could be done very good anyway. Maybe the past onwer was trying to make it fit the Vic 2?????. I mean a horn is a horn....no????.....
