The Talking Machine Forum — For All Antique Phonographs & Recordings

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong subforum for this, but I have come across an old phonograph in very poor shape. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on it, beyond what the label says, and tell me if it has any value. That will be a driver in whether or not I hunker down and try to rebuild it.

This is not the most valuable phonograph in the world but it's good to play 78s, impress people with your collection, or sell. All fixed up these may fetch around $75 to $125 if done right, but I haven't sold one in awhile.

This one's pretty similar to the majority of small 1930s - 1940s portables. However it's nicer than most I come across.

Well, I just may do it, but the biggest problem, assuming I can get the mechanics going, will be the case. It's in very poor shape. I'll have to reexamine and see what's involved. Honestly, I was going to pass on it until you said that it's nicer than most you come across. I thought it was plenty rough, but since you're in this world, I'm going with your take on it.

What's the general availability of parts for these things? I'm on the Antique Radio Forum and most like the electronics side of restoration, and I've gotten pretty caught up on what the parts availability for vintage electronics gear is. Are the mechanical parts in phonographs fairly available? And do you know anything about the manufacturer? A search of Perfection Phonograph, El Paso, Texas turns up nothing.
