Nickel vs Gold Plated Ends on Victor Spearpoint Horns

Another topic reminded me of a question that I have been meaning to ask. I have two mahogany Victor Spearpoint horns. Both have gold plated ends. I have seen others with nickel ends. Were the mahogany horns with gold plated ends intended specifically for the Victor VI, since the machine had gold plated hardware? Conversely, I wasn't sure if the nickel plated mahogany ones might have been intended for the Victor IV, as it was a mahogany machine with nickel plated hardware.
