Did Early Victor XVII have different knobs?

I came across an interesting machine and I wanted to see if anyone has seen this before. It is an early Victor XVII, S/N:2300. This machine has been in their family over 60 years. So, it was acquired or passed down in the mid 1960's. Looking at the machine, it is all original and no sign of tinkering. However the cabinet knobs are not what I have come to expect on a XVII, with the decreasing circles machined in the front and flat edges. Thes knob look like they are off of a Victor XVI. Has anyone seen this or have they been replaced????

They look normal to me. Do the bases have multiple steps?

I recently parted out a Victor VV-XVII and the knobs looked like a typical XVI/XIII knob. Don't have the serial number handy. Maybe there was a part shortage and they used the older XVIII knobs.

Thanks Jeff! I was thinking the same thing, but also know that these easily could have been swapped at some time, but why would you, right?

Hey Mark,
Those knobs are likely correct. Early XVIIs have these knobs as you show, while later XVIIs have knobs with concentric circles on their faces. Early XVIIs also usually have a "skinny" tonearm and Exhibition reproducers, while later versions usually have "fat" tonearms and Victrola No. 2 reproducers.

Mark,
The parts listing for the XVII with your serial number includes these part numbers, 5603GP and 5604GP. The stock knobs should be gold plated (GP) have the concentric rings. S.D. and L.D. means small door and large door. The “where used” column shows that these knobs were not used on the XVI, that model lists different part numbers for the knobs.. As Jeff states, they could have been substituted during the original build or changed at any time since.
