Protected behind the cygnet horn mount. I guess machine was in a smoking household.

Can anyone recommend a stain to match this? Hoping for something easy to find in North America.

I think I'd start with a GoJo cleaning and go from there. What does the decal side look like?

Likely stored in an attic where hydrocarbons from a chimney affected the finish. Waterless hand cleaner (without pumice) and 0000 steel wool.

DO. NOT. STRIP.

Two other forum members have offered you very good advice on how to start.

Before you all lay down the law as to what the OP must NOT do, have a look at what he's got to work with, viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58068

Not much finish left to rescue here...

I used General Finishes antique walnut oil stain on this project and this was how it turned out. This finish is orange shellac dissolved in denatured alcohol.

It is true the finish is altogether gone from around half the case and lid, and darkened on the rest. Another forum member is donating a case bottom that looks much better -- close to the "golden oak" -- so I will wait for that and then work towards getting a colour match on the lid. I have an Opera that was likely varathaned in the 70s and then a thick Edison decal was attached to the front. I hate that finish and decal. I am REALLY impressed with restoration techniques that use shellac and decals from phonodecal. So I will work towards getting back to an original look with shellac. The Triumph B from dzavracky is something to shoot for.

If you have any questions on how I did my triumph, feel free to send me a pm. The process is pretty straight forward. The hardest part about it is just being patient... I did a lot of sanding :?

Cheers,
