What do I have here? (ID please :) )

Hi all,

I've "inherited" what appears to be a UK-made Columbia Grafonola.

Have done a bit of googling, but can't quite find what model/year this might be. To be honest, I'm more into restoring 60/70s turntables, so I'm quite a bit out of my depth here :-)

It plays, but turntable slows down once the needle is lowered onto the record - so assume the spring needs replacing.

Wondering whether anybody could ID it and whether it's worth anything / worth fixing. Condition doesn't seem too bad considering it's apparent age.

Thanks in advance !

John

You have a Model 10a. Here is the 1927/28 catalogue image.
The spring may respond to a full service. This involves removing and cleaning it before reinstalling with new grease.
If you are not confident about attempting this work, there may be repairers in your area who will do it at a price.

It looks like a nice portable in good condition, definitely worth keeping and fixing...

Awesome, thank you :) I will do some research to see what's involved in a re-grease.
