Hello all. I have a 4-40 motor I'm about to disassemble and clean and regrease. But I have a question on the crank mechanism. There appears to be no threads on the crank itself or in the gear. I have attached some pics for clarity hopefully. It almost looks like there is a pin through the crank past this collar I haven't seen before. Is this just a case of a previous owner stripped the threads out of the gear and on the crank? Or am I missing something. As always thank y'all for any information you can give me. Well after a bit of a delay I finally got back around to fixing up this 4-40. I ended up rebuilding the reproducer, replacing the disintegrated tone arm mount, replacing the felt on the turntable, replacing the springs in the motor and cleaning and reapplying new grease to everything. I replaced the grill cloth.I sanded the entire cabinet and restained in a red mahogany I applied a polycoat 5 layers thick and buffed and polished and buffed some more. The end result in my opinion turned out pretty good. No it's on to the next project. A 1948 Seeburg trashcan jukebox. Thanks again for the help and shared knowledge of all you folks.

Looks like you did a very nice job. I've owned one for nearly 30 years, and it's an excellent performer, rivaling the Credenza in terms of it's mellow tone and expansive sound quality. It also pumps out quite a bit of bass, though not as deep as the Credenza's.

One thing you might want to do, though, is reposition the grille. It's upside down.
