------------------------------

6,200 BRAND NEW EDISON DIAMOND DISC RECORDS

Item number: 200591293842
Item location: UNION, ILLINOIS, United States\

Starting bid: US $25,000.00

Description: This may be one of the last great hoards of new Edison Diamond disc records available. There are over 6,200 records all brand new, never played. This collection came from the Clarence Ferguson collection. Mr. Ferguson was the last authorized Edison dealer in the U.S. and this was his stock of Diamond Disc records. He passed away in 1972. The records are currently in numerical order and range from # 8,000 to 52,600. They are all in their original Edison jackets. The collection occupies about 175 feet of shelf space. This is a great opportunity for someone who has the time to piece these out on eBay. You should be able to make quite of bit of money. Although there are a lot of doubles and triples of titles, this collection has not been picked over. You are welcome to come and view them before you bid. The collection is located in Union Illinois. Also included are a limited number of the original packing crates that the records came in but there are not enough for the entire collection. I prefer pickup but I will help arrange shipping. I will ship worldwide but I won't quote shipping until after the auction.

Obviously you really have to be into Edison Diamond Discs to want this collection. In spite of the fact that it is all unplayed new old Stock, as anyone knows, sure there must be quite a few real gems in there, especially some of the later Electrically recorded DD's and some of those great but few and far between Jazz Selections on Edison, but the vast majority and especially the earlier etched label stuff is quite boring, and regardless of the new condition, you would have a difficult time ebaying them. This is obviously for someone who is really into Collecting anything that is Edison, has lots of room, and wants it just because it is probably the last great horde of new old stock Edison DD's to be found, anywhere in the United States.

I've listened to all of the electric DD's from the late 20's using a modern turntable (the discs are also NOS). There is a LOT of great stuff, but also, one can not help but acknowledge all of the Donaldson & Parker discs, the weird entertainers (radio stars pulled to record for Edison, ventriloquists), and the nausea-inducing novelty bands. There WAS a lot of bad stuff on these too, let us not forget (intended humor).

I am truthfully more excited for the EARLY frosted label discs from 1912-1914. The audio quality is beyond stunning, with zero surface noise..and an unbelievable presence when played. The electric discs are loud and clear, but...well, they lack something natural. I once listened to sax solos on my Beethoven, and the "up close" feel was there.....disturbingly so. The Beethoven and Shubert are simply awesome for the electric discs. (I RAMBLE). In the 1912-1914 discs Edison's engineers made the PERFECT acoustic record. Unfortunately, these discs suffer from delaminating, warping, and their relative rarity. Tis a shame. The best records I own, are these early ones that often pass under the radar of the DD junkies that are all searching for the late electric discs. (hey, i'm one of them too!)

What I am curious about is are they worth this amount? Seems like an awful lot of money to me.

Doing the math quick, that is $4.16 per disc. Any NOS disc is worth that to me!

The records are being sold by the family that owns the facility where the Union show is held. Jerry
