Boy I have run into some really odd things on ebay of late.. You may be the one bidding against me and if so fine, but I am just curious here. I really don't know much about Morton Gould and orchestra but I find it very odd that every time I try to buy an couple of 78 albums I don't have the same person outbids me? I have increased the bid every time and yet they continue to pay more for the same albums they have already won quite a few of.. So I am left the think that someone thinks Morton Gould selections are either hot items for increasing prices or, well I don't know what the "or" are?

I did recently noticed that a bunch of Edisons I sold went for at least four times the sale prices as buy it nows by a large dealer. I am still puzzled by the people who avoid paying 2.99 for a perfect Hawaiian record but turn around and pay 25.00 for it out right? Well I guess what ever works and obviously there is something at play with some sellers that works and I have to say its not a bad idea for those doing it. It just amazes me the people who pay many times the price they could buy it for to get it as a buy it now.

He made a number of interesting RCA Living Stereo recordings (most of which have been reissued on CD), and was a successful guest conductor of major orchestras (including the Chicago Sym Orch) in his twilight years. He had wonderful and rather eclectic tastes. In the '60s he was a champion of Carl Nielsen (and made some great recordings for RCA). I think in his earlier years he was pigeon-holed by the recording industry into the light classical repertoire, but really his range was much broader, including much contemporary music (he was a composer himself).

Yes those early selections are mostly standard pieces with a few having rather obscure by more or less semi popular classics that he does play in some interesting ways which is probably why I liked them. I have a feeling the other bidder is probably a dealer who is willing to hold them for some time and then resell when the market is higher. Although I have a feeling his paying price increases with pressure from another possible buyer.
