No "maybe" about it. Deccalians are very sought after.

The first, possibly unique, example you show sold to me for £680 + Auction fees.
The second, less rare, example sold on eBay for £500 + Shipping costs.
The latest example has several bids with over nine days to go. I am tempted.

The HMV record cleaning pad seems to have a different 'decal' design to any I have seen before too. Maybe an early one ? Maybe I just haven't seen one like that before ?

Anyway, it is great to have confirmation from you about this gramophone.

According to The Collectors Guide to HMV Nipper Souvenirs, which is well worth acquiring, this variation of the Trade Mark transfer first appeared on the last oval record cleaning pads in 1924. It had a short production life, as it was replaced by the circular pad in early 1925. Probably uncommon and a bonus for whoever buys the Deccalian.

Isn't that from the Late Roger Thorne's Estate? I recognise it from 2011 or at least Roger had something very similar.

The HMV cleaning pad is as standard as they come. This pad sold very well judging by how many seem to turn up frequently. I have about 8 of that exact pattern in my collection!

The machine under discussion is not the one from the Roger Thorne collection, which sold for £210 plus fees.
The eBay example has the Deccalian name inside the lid. The Roger Thorne example does not.

I agree, Steve, I have two of these that came with machines - I do not actively collect pads. One of them has the French decal La Voix de Son Maître, and the other is identical to the one in the photo.

I ended up buying the boudoir machine, I found it too good-looking to pass, and moreover the seller was an experienced chap that arranged a quite reasonably priced crating and shipment, a rarity in these post-Brexit days. It arrived in a single piece, in great shape and is very loud! I just needed to replace the tubing of the soundbox.

Roger and Steve, are these three machines contemporaneous? Mechanically they seem almost identical to each other (maybe with different motors), fitted in custom cabinets. Do you know other Deccalian models? It looks an interesting line of little-known collectible machines.

I did buy pads and any other accessories or ephemera relating to HMV about 30 years ago, back before the Internet. Interestingly, even with Ebay for the past 20 years or so, I rarely spot anything I haven't already got. Back then I used to get most items from Ruth Lambert, the Queen Of The Needle Tins!

However, like yourself, I do rarely pick up pads in with machines and you've reminded me that I also have the French version of that particular variant; it came with a 450 Table Grand Lumiere, appropriately.

Okay, so it is the same identical model but not Roger's one. I don't recall being overly impressed by that one at the time, hence why I didn't bid on it. I did buy the more popular "Boudoir" upright model though and it's one of a pair I have.

Roger did have several Deccalians but the one I regret not buying was a mahogany table model in immaculate condition, which is not a word I could use to describe many items from that vast collection. I wonder where that is now.
