Brett Hurt mentions there was a kind of rubberized paint used between the upper and lower bedplates on the Edison Triumph. Was this to dampen motor vibrations reaching the record and reproducer? If so, the machine screws that attach the upper bedplate to the lower should also have been coated, it seems to me.

Can anybody elaborate describing what was rubber coated and if there are additional reasons for it?

I haven't heard anything about rubber paint on Triumphs. I have a Model A, and there may have been rubber buffers between the upper works & bedplate, and possibly rubber washers, but nothing resembling rubber paint. Where did Brett mention this?

I've never heard of such a thing. I have only ever seen small rubber pads between the upper works and the base plate, along with rubber washers under the two hold-down screws, (along with a steel washer). On unrestored machines, these pads & washers are usually decayed and melted down over time and by exposure to oil. Perhaps it's those melted down pads that are being mistaken for a rubber coating?

In one of Brett's Youtube videos there is a mention of rubberized paint being used between upper and lower bedplate, and using (I think I recall) steel wool to clean it up. Now of course I can't locate the video because Youtube "selects" what it shows me. It was my inference that the special paint was a dampener; if this seems wrong I should just delete this post.

No. Don't delete anything. There's always something that someone can learn from these posts.

Still haven't found the video. But Brett sandwiches bits of bicycle inner tube rubber between the bedplates. So he is probably thinking along the same lines as me -- dampening.
