“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

August 7, 1883: Born: Reinald Werrenrath, concert and operatic baritone and prolific Victor recording artist.

August 7, 1900: Eldridge Johnson was granted a U.S. patent (No.655,556) for “Sound Recording and Reproducing Machine.” This device was marketed through 1901 as the Berliner/Johnson “Exhibition” sound box.

Thanks for the history, George! The only Werrenrath recording I own is "Kashmiri Song." It is beautiful. I was inspired to find it after hearing the (apparently one and only) recording of Rudolph Valentino singing it.

reinald werrrenrath has a very very good recording of honey boy with reed miller. :D
