I bought a Victor III size elbow that's shorter than another Victor III elbow. The short one has pins to limit the movement while the other has a raised portion of the elbow to limit movement. I've always believed the pins were for early rear mount machines. When Victor realized their shortcomings they beefed up the back side of the elbow to limit movement. My question is more about the length of the elbow. The distance from the opening to the slot is the same on both elbows. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for helping me procrastinate this morning. Just what my ADHD brain needed I compared my pin elbows to my "ledge" elbows. For my III size elbows the pin ones are fractionally shorter than the ledge one, but not so much you would notice if I hadn't checked. It sounds like your difference is bigger. I then looked at the pin elbows on my early II and E and I did notice a lot more variation in my pin elbow construction than ledge elbow construction. Perhaps the manufacture of earlier elbows was more varied resulting in differences in elbows from batch to batch or supplier. By the time the ledge style elbows emerged, the specifications and manufacture was much more consistent? In fact the pin elbow on my early II has a raised ridge inside which I hadn't noticed before. That's my guess anyway. Can you share a photo of the difference?

I can't imagine anyone made reproductions of pin style elbows? All mine seem appropriately aged... .
