Tennants Auctioneers, Leyburn, North Yorkshire :

"A fine EMG Mark Xb Gramophone with 4-spring EMG tri-spoke nickel-plated soundbox for fibre needles, Garrard electric motor, 29.½-inch Davey papier-mâché horn, EMG ivorine plaque with Grape St. London address to motor board, in oak case with three-quarter lid and ebonised line detail".

Every time I see these I think to myself, " What a crazy invention". It seriously looks like it was drawn by a cartoonist :lol:

Sold for a hammer price of £3,000 which, for the buyer, translates to about £4,000 depending upon the method of bidding.

I had to look up the USD exchange rate. $5,361.54 :shock:

Yes, it went for a cheap price considering what good EMG's go for, but if you look closely at every auction picture, the cabinet has some issues and the electric motor will deter a lot of "hard-core" gramophone collectors.

This is very astute indeed ! (Really).

There were 3 or 4 reasons why I didn't bid for this and one of them was the fact that it has an electric motor.

So, I am a "hard core" gramophone collector ..... Yeah man !!!
