I am looking at getting a VV-XVIII. It is missing the internal horn. Is that horn unique to the XVIII? Or, will horns from similar models fit in it? Thanks, Ken Brekke

I saw that one too! My XVIII came to me without a horn. A friend of mine gave me one that fit perfectly, but the wooden horn bell is made of oak, telling me that it came from a different model. What model exactly, I could not say. But to answer your question, "yes" other horns will fit.

Really though, the machine you're looking at has the cast iron part. All you'll need is the wooden bell.

Have a spare mahogany horn from an L Door 16. Looking at the 18 I have, not so sure it will fit correctly.

Ken, normally for parts interchangeability I would consult the parts listing that Victor published for the XVIII. However in this case the horn and elbow were not considered replaceable parts so they are not listed.

I’m happy to measure my XVIII horn if that would help.

Mark,
Thanks. That might help in the search for the correct horn. So far, it sounds like the XVIII had it's own size.

I recently restored a VV-XVIII that was missing the horn; after trying several horns from other Victrola models that did not fit, I was fortunate to locate a VV-XVIII that was being parted out. Two issues: the correct cast iron neck is graduated, so that the base of the correct tonearm will fit inside the neck. The other issue is that the wooden horn is quite a bit larger that other horns. Best of wishes on your VV-XVIII; it is worth the extra effort. Roy

As I mentioned, the cast iron part of the horn is still there. If it came down to making the wood part, it would be worth the effort.

Ken I received an XVIII several years ago and also had to find a correct horn. I used the complete horn out of a late XVI and it was a perfect fit. Hop this helps.

Wes,
Thanks!!!! I wonder why so many of the XVIII models are missing the horns?

Ken,

I have the mahogany horn from a 130 if that might fit. It is about 10 ⅛" x 15" outside dimensions, and ~9 ¾" x 14.5" inside dimensions of the outer part of the horn. Its yours for shipping if you need it.
