Worth a closer look?

Post by epigramophone »

Nothing remarkable about the machine, but the soundbox has an EMG/Expert/Astra look about it.

The engraved letters on the soundbox look like EX....T to me. The auctioneers might be surprised how much the rather tatty portable makes.

I know nothing about EMG/Expert/Astra reproducers but if a music enthusiast is going to put a premium reproducer on a portable, I would want to look at the records. The records and carrying case seem to be in fine condition.

Pretty sure that's an Expert 4 spring.

It went for £230+ fees, so close to £300. Not too bad a deal if you need an Expert soundbox and get an unusual gramophone and some records with it.

Those Rondo record boxes seem desirable too. I've seen a couple go for £30-£50!

I was the buyer at this auction so will report back in a few weeks time following delivery by an independent company. It is rather too far away to collect myself. Fingers crossed and many thanks to eagle-eyed Roger !

Well done Graham. The right man bought it. I look forward to seeing and possibly hearing it when Alastair and I visit.

I agree couldn’t happen to a nicer chap. I’m sure it says ‘EXPERT’ on the front of the soundbox.:D

Hopefully some good records as a bonus.
