September 22, 1870: Born: Arthur Pryor, trombone virtuoso, bandleader, soloist with Sousa’s Band, prolific composer of band music, and recording artist.
September 22, 1903: Eldridge Johnson was granted a U.S. patent (No.739,318) for “Sound Record.” This new process would introduce the first use of a paper label on the recorded side of a disc. This was the “Improved Gramophone Record” which had appeared in the late summer of 1900.
