FOR SALE: VARIOUS MACHINES - VARIOUS PRICES

Post by PHONOMIKE »

I'm getting rid of some of my collection. These did not sell last time around so I am trying again. So here we go.

1) Victor E front mount - $550

This is a complete machine. An early version with the plunger style brake. The turntable felt has been replaced and the record hold down is a reproduction. Crank appears to be original. Has an all black horn and anodized bracket. Horn has some bumps and bruises as seen in the pictures but overall not bad. Case is in good condition with the odd scratch. Has the early bevel drive 2 spring motor. The motor is strong and will play thru a record with plenty to spare. I don't have any old 7" records to get a good sound on it and bigger 10" records rub on the brake and speed control. I did play a 7" little wonder record on it and it played fine with no issues. The motor has the typical governor sound from these older motors otherwise all else is good. Long throat reproducer appears good with the rubber gasket still soft. Brake and speed control work fine. Overall a nice early machine for your collection.
*** A member has pointed out that the horn and elbow are from a Columbia machine. There is no decal on the horn. I've lowered the price to reflect this. ***

2) Victor 1-70 - $150

The cabinet is original with some light scratches but doesn't distract too badly. The #4 reproducer has some cracks around the body of it and could use some TLC and a rebuild. Motor plays thru a record easily. Front grill cloth looks to be replaced but also looks close to original cloth.

Not a common machine but for $150 will look good displayed or played.

3) Vitaphone #28 Tabletop - $600 SOLD

Another rare machine up for grabs. Here is a Vitaphone model 28. You don't see these very often so here's your chance to own this one.

Here is what I dug up online:

The Vitaphone is a Canadian company that produced these phonographs out of Toronto. The distinguishing features of the Vitaphone were a wooden tone-arm and stationary sound-box. A solid wood tone arm vibrated along with the stylus, and communicated the sound to a diaphragm kept under constant tension by a string attached to a coil spring under the motor board.

The Good:
Rare machine not often found.
Case is in good condition.
Internal horn. Lid must be closed for sound to come out top portion where speaker grill is.
All looks to be original.

The Bad:
I'm not sure how the string/reproducer/tonearm all work together and I don't have the patience to even try to figure it out. This is left for someone else with more knowledge to work on.

Pictures below. I can bring any/all of these to Stanton's in November if that helps anyone.

Message me with questions, more pics or to buy.

Mike

The Vitaphones are interesting machines, but I am primarily interested in those from the US company in Plainfield, NJ (my home for the past 35 years). I only have one Canadian machine, also a tabletop.
