The seller is looking for offers on what he estimates to be a collection of between 5,000 and 10,000 78s.
Surrey, BC, is close to two border crossings with Washington state.

It might be easier to sell them as individual pallets! Surely they are not going to go quick if they sell as a lot. I see lots of classical albums which should be fun, and who knows what singles are in there.

I don't think he wants to deal with people cherry picking the collection. And I literally have no room left, no shelf space, no dry and safe storage. I am still dealing with a number of pickup truck loads of disks I was given last year.
There are obviously collectors here for both records and machines, but I have only ever met three of them in person, one now a CAPS member because I suggested that he join, and the second, a young guy who collects ethic records, and the thrid, a musician/radio personality, who has been trying to downsize his holdings. I have also met one other collector here at this site in cyber-space, and there has been the intention to meet up in person, but as they do say about the road to the firey place. I also know of a collector who specializes in Aragon records, but I have never met him. In 2016, the population of Greater Vancouver was about 2,463,431 people. Despite this number, I suspect that the collectors per capita rate here is relatively low and this sub-population, as evidenced by FBM and CL, seems to be aging and thus downsizing stuff in general. As a consequence, it seems hard to sell machines and records. I have tried to give boxes of records away and found no takers. Machines, except for very special ones, move slowly or not at all, and prices seem quite depressed.
With 78s, the only things that might move quickly or at all are Rock and Roll records.

That's the same with many of us... If I only had space to store them... And time to play them all...

That collection would need a truck and at least two fit people to load it, then once the buyer has decided which records to keep they will be faced with the problem of how to dispose of the rest. Not many collectors could cope with such a large quantity.
On a much smaller scale, I recently purchased a job lot of 180 and will only be keeping about 30, but still a bargain. Collector friends have also selected a few, and the rest are going to a local wildlife charity shop.

Yes I’m one of the Vancouver collectors you spoke to but haven’t met yet. Hopefully we will soon!
And yes it’s hard to find good records up here. The only time I ever did was around 15 years ago, a jazz collector passed away and his collection of thousands of 78’s ended up at a used record shop in Port Coquitlam about 25 miles from downtown Vancouver where I live. I found out about it from a Craigslist ad on the day it was posted. I got a lot of them very cheaply. Picked out about a hundred or so of the best ones, all prewar hot jazz from 20’s-early 30’s including many race issues. Over time I sold most of them (and made money) and kept a handful of them. I found out the collector who owned them lived downtown a mile away from me and I never knew.
Other than that, the only way I have acquired good records has been auctions and the occasional lucky find during my travels.

If only I wasn't in college! An ambitious me says this is doable and would totally make the border crossings to check out the collection and make some offers...
