A Weird Gem?

I’ve come across what is described as a “Model A Gem” at auction. But upon researching it found the serial number is for a model B gem. However it has a winding key, and has a nickeled patent plate, does anybody know anything about this?

It sure looks like a Model A Gem to me. What's the serial number?

I always thought any Gem lid with a slot on the crank side is a Gem B or later.

It is likely a marriage… key wind A
mech and an early Banner front B lid…

That serial number puts the Gem at April 1905, making it a late Model A. The lid is from a Model B. You've been misinformed.
An detailed article on the Edison Gem - including a dating chart - appeared in the June 2023 issue of the APS magazine. It's never been easier for collectors to educate themselves!
