Just wanted to let members know this little machine sold on Ebay at the Buy It Now price of $1400 in 2 days.

I'm happy with the sale and was wondering what is the opinion of other collectors. I have noticed that recently the Graphophone disc machines seemed to come on in value over their Victor counterpart which have fallen off a little.

It was a nice little machine though.

Congratulations to your quick sale. Yes, this was a really nice little machine.

I have also noticed that Columbia Graphophones in whatever shape seem to sell quite well recently, sometimes even quite high I think. Maybe people got tired of the more conservative look of Victor machines? Graphophones always had a very interesting design. Maybe this will result in more reproductions of the most problematic potmetal parts? Somebody might see an opportunity here...

I've always found Graphophones - cylinder and disc - to be interesting; for me the most interesting line of talking machines. Their aesthetics, the many variations within models, and their genuine innovation has made me a long-time fan.

As for the pot metal carriages, Jean-Paul Agnard sells replacements at very reasonable prices, so there's no reason to be frightened away on that account. Occasionally you'll encounter a late AT where the entire upper casting is made of swollen pot metal. There's nothing to be done for that, but thankfully they seem to be rather uncommon - - at least I've encountered only a few. Other than that, I've found cylinder Graphophones to be reliable and well designed. The disc Graphophones have no pot metal problems that I'm aware of.

For performance, it's hard to beat a Victor, but I find the Graphophones far more interesting.

Not all, but many of the Disc Graphophones [and Grafonolas] have pot-metal tone arms [after the "new" wore off of the aluminum tone arm promotion], and the nickel plating doesn't age well on pot-metal. That's the only place I remember seeing it on their disc machines. Luckily, I have an aluminum tone-arm type BN, which plays the early [pre-1906] discs better than anything else I've heard.
