Edison Triton Motor

“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

October 27, 1896: Frank Capps received a U.S. patent (No.570,378) for a “Spring Motor for Phonographs.” This would become the Edison “Triton” motor, which powered the Edison Spring-Motor, Triumph, and Concert Phonographs for the next 15 years.

No, at the time Capps was working for the United States Phonograph Company in Newark, NJ.
