HMV "Florentine Bronze" metalwork & Soundbox

Hello to all;

My first post as a new forum member but a collector for couple of years.

I have a HMV 152 gramophone which has "Florentine Bronze" metalwork. This included the HMV 5A soundbox which has gone the way of all poor pot metal. I was thinking of repainting a standard 5A or 5B to match the rest of the metalwork. Has anyone done this in the past and have any advice?

Type of paint? preparation before painting?

As for my HMV 152 .Maybe not the greatest machine HMV made but I like the sound it makes in a smaller room and the way it sits in the corner and pretends its electric with its "modern" styling.

Ian, wipe the surface with acetone (nail polish remover) or alcohol to remove dirt and grease. Use a "true metallic paint" that closely matches the other plated parts for best results, not a spray can of bronze color Rustoleum. Here is a source for accurate colored metallic paint:
