Heads up ! For anyone who has a rare G & T Style 14 De Luxe Gramophone missing its horn -- there is a loose horn for one currently on UK ebay. The seller does not know it is for that model , but has been told its a rare horn -- which of course it is. The likelihood of one of these horns turning up loose is very slim indeed. Search on ebay " Gramophone horn , Vintage , Huge " . No bids at moment , a few days left to run. You won;t see another of these in a hurry !!Dulcetto

Obviously the seller is getting concerned that not much time left and still no bids -- no doubt he was expecting a flurry of interest ! Problem is of course that yes it might be a very rare horn , but then so are the machines that it is intended for and how many Style 14 owners are looking for a horn ? Very few or none I would suspect . £300 of course a bargain if someone is looking for one , but I don't envy whoever has to apply the metal polish to clean it up ! Bad enough having to polish up a small aluminium phonograph horn ! Lot of elbow grease and Solvo Autosol !!

What is a complete "14" worth these days? £1500-1800?

I booked a snipe which won’t beat the new price so I’ll probably pass. Anyway it’s a hassle at the moment getting to Southend. Ian Maxted had one of these for sale which I wish I’d bought.

It'll make more than the start bid, I'm fairly sure although there is an awful lot of sanding down and polishing of that horn to do to make it look even half respectable. I attempted something similar with a different aluminium horn and gave up after a couple of hours when I'd revived an area considerably smaller than the palm of my hand!

Actually I booked my snipe before this thread was posted in the hope that the horn might slip through eBay largely unnoticed. It’s happened before.
But I agree the outside of the horn looks quite corroded.

Following the sudden removal from Ebay, expect this to reappear soon all gleaming and shiny with a start bid in excess of £600!

People often loose interest with sellers that play games. So much for my revised my snipe.
Has the seller informed you of his intention or is this a well-considered hunch?

I've been in contact with the seller and he's had an offer of £600 from Japan if it is polished up first so the seller has withdrawn it with the intention of polishing it and then re-listing it at a start price which reflects the level of interest and highest offers received.
