Edison Home Phonograph

“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

January 27, 1897: Thomas A. Edison filed for a U.S. patent for a “Governor for Motors.” This device would become the motor for the Edison “Home” Phonograph, in production with minor changes until 1913.

So about a 15 year run for that design. Not bad!

I'm curious about the reproducer. On first glance appears to be an automatic or maybe standard speaker but looking more closely, it's marked differently.

I thought it was a skeleton chassis but I forgot to take a closer look. Nice Home.
