This appeared on Ebay recently. it would appear to be based on an early machine of around 1900 and seems to be contemporary with that sort of date. I've never seen one before - has anyone else ??

This is a genuine item, I’ve seen it in an old catalogue or a book. Maybe in ‘The Collectors Guide To His Master’s Voice Nipper Souvenirs’.

Interesting and inexpensive. I'd have bought that straight away had I spotted it. As Jamie has said, it's a completely genuine original period piece. I don't have my "Red Book" to hand but I doubt it'll be in there as that book collates souvenirs including Nipper, the dog, which this piece does not feature.

No, if anything it's more likely to be German or French but I equally think it might be British.

Thanks Steve. I have googled "Gramophone" and "Phonograph" inkwell and can find absolutely nothing so I guess it is quite rare.

Incredibly rare, I'd say. Did you buy it? Please say "Yes!"

Yes definitely European made. There are also inkwell sets, blotters, paper holders and smokers sets (for cigars and tobacco) featuring Nipper and a Gramophone.

I have the French Nipper and gramophone wooden smoker's set! I also have a Japanese silver Nipper and (sarcophagus shape table model) gramophone cigarette dispenser and Gramophone Company gold plated cigarette case souvenir (in original packaging), given out to dealers.

All that and I don't even smoke!
