Autobrake troubles

Hello, this is another post about my Mayfair machine, this time about the autobrake.
The autobrake works decently well, but it's not sensitive enough. I have to set it pretty far from where it's actually gonna stop, and even then it only really engages like half of the time. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Studying the mechanism for a while, I believe the problem rests on the rod going through the T piece and helical spring, it must have some grease or oil where it shouldn't, and so the friction when turning is not enough to trig the brake, it should be sensitive. I would advise to submerge it in gasoline to clean any rest of oil or grease.

I was able to get it to work by rotating the bar that hits the arm 360° and it started to work alot better
