Gus Haenschen was indeed the original "Carl Fenton"; however, in 1928 Ruby Greenberg purchased the rights to the name and moved the orchestra to Gennett where they also recorded as "The New Yorkers". The rare Carl Fenton Cova QRS releases were also Greenberg. Greenberg legally changed his name to Carl Fenton in 1932.

Some of you may know this, but a biographer named James A. Drake did a long interview with him in the 1970s, which has since been published in text form online. Here's the link to the collection:
