What is it ? Miraphone ?

Post by phonodesbois »

This gramophone just sold for around 1900€ (2150$) including auction fees and I don’t know what it is. The only indication is a Miraphone reproducer.

Any idea?
Thanks, Jeff

I am the buyer, thanks to a tip from a fellow collector. It is a Swiss Miraphone. Miraphone made ornate gramophones that are hard to find, especially in good shape like this one. I will post some photos in the near future.

Beautiful machine and so obviously "correct" and in very good original condition too; the slight worm infestation can be easily remedied and is very common in continental machines of this type anyway.

I have seen another machine with this same horn but although I was tempted it wasn't in very good condition and was full of ugly soldered joints, unlike the one in discussion.

Congratulations, Carlos, I look forward to seeing more of it in due course.

Not a Miraphone - its a Symphonion, German! Its original storage cabinet was also included. Nice condition despite the few worm holes, The horn is the show stealer.

The horn reminds me a little bit of one which appeared in a previous thread:

Thanks for the feedback! Indeed the main attraction is the horn, and the machine being in overall good shape. The worm holes are indeed quite common in continental machines, but that can be fixed with some patience and a good set of wax sticks.
