This is probably the roughest project yet

Most of the parts for this VV-VIII are present, including the spent needle cup, No.2 repro. and albeit dismantled escutcheon.
The finish is rough however as you can see. Somebody put a thick layer of shellac?? Veneer chips galore.
Also the spring may have a broken end since it won't hold a wind. Hopefully its just in need of adjustment/reattachment to
the arbor. "As found" $50 fixer is featured in photos as well as some post Goop/Howards treatment. Motor overhaul on the way.

I guess others have has worse, my Amberola 30 is quite sad but I am looking forward to starting it soon.
The veneer is missing in some form from all sides, the top is missing, the spring is broken and the reproducer needs serious work. But hey, that is why we love this hobby and the challenge.

Thanks Peter. I agree, the end result makes it all worth the effort. I have to get my teeth drilled today so
I probably won't have time to tear down the motor. I may take a shot at it later tonight though. I am curious
to see why the spring won't wind up.

Yeah, it kind of looks like it may have been in "Oscar the Grouch's" collection.
The funny thing, this model is the most common of all but this is the first one I ever
ran across. I have already had 2 VV-VI's and 2 VV-IX's. Its always fun to see the next
model around the corner.

Found out that
both springs were broken in the middle. Also one of the springs was permanently riveted to
the side of the barrel. Fortunately I had a spare barrel with re-greased springs on hand and made the swap.
Another issue, the governor was frozen with the weights extended. Liquid wrench helped to free it up and its
running smooth now.

Thanks Peter! My final adjustment was swapping the turntable with another spare one I had. For some reason this
"cured" the odd speed fluctuations. My only guess is the original one is slightly warped??
In other news I picked up a late model VV-XIV yesterday. The good news is its in good condition and most of the parts
are present. I will post some pics when I get a chance.
