I received an Edison Standard Phonograph as a gift. I like antiques but I know very little about antique phonographs. I was hoping to find out more about it, as in when it was manufactured and what model it is. The reproducer says Model C - is that the model of the phonograph or just the reproducer? The serial # is 6272740? Is there someplace I can go to research this item by serial #?

Any help on this item would be greatly appreciated.

Edison Standard Phonographs do not carry seven-digit serial numbers. Take another look under strong light and I may be able to help you.

The Model C Reproducer was the typical 2-minute Reproducer provided with 1905/later Gems, 1902/later Standards, Homes, and Triumphs.

Feel free to post a picture of your Standard and any number of people here can identify the model (A-G) for you. A detailed, illustrated article on all models of the Edison Standard Phonograph (with a serial dating chart) appeared in the December 2023 issue of the Antique Phonograph Society magazine.

It means it's a Model C reproducer and not necessarily a Model C Standard.

Thank you for the response. I looked closer. The 1st digit of the serial number is a S, not a 6. The number is S272740.

According to original Edison sales data, Standard #272740 left the factory in February 1906. That will be a Model B Standard, and there should be a banner decal on the front of the cabinet stating "Edison Standard Phonograph." That banner was discontinued in the summer of 1906.

The Edison Standard B: A great starter machine that's very reliable! I have one that's gonna be my recording machine (once I get a belt on it but I've put it off too long for other projects lol) Welcome!
