Looks homemade to me.

I was meaning (apart from the fact that it is not from the Gramophone Company) that the description is miserable, like that it is circa 1909 "from the 1930s"

Having seen the original post I viewed the machine out of curiosity.
The seller then offered a substantial discount via eBay, which I politely declined.

I think the seller of this listing had copied the title from another eBay listing. This other listing has the same title but has the correct machine for the title:

The seller ended the listing at 11.47am today, because the item was "no longer available".

I can’t imagine there was a battle for it. I agree with Carlos it looked homemade, out of cutlery boxes. I don’t think I would have used the word ‘stunning’. The ‘EXPOSITION’ soundbox being the most interesting thing about it.

Now relisted as a "Gramophone Company Exposition c.1909 Bespoke". The description includes the following contradiction :

"This antique gramophone from 1909......made in Germany in the 1930's......"

I was tempted to ask the seller "which is it", but I don't think it would be worth the effort.

The case has an Art Deco look about it and appears to be made from teak. I'm not convinced it's homemade. It might be a genuine 1930s Indian machine, albeit with a replacement soundbox.

One identical to this sold at auction last year for £25. I missed it otherwise I would have bought it out of curiosity. I can't recall if the "other one" had a split lid which might confirm it is the same machine!

Someone’s bought it.

I think the photos were very poor and badly trimmed with cut off corners. I would have needed to see it before buying. Unless, of course, it was £25.
