Seems to be written in old Gothic style, and thus I read "G M"
Does this seem logic?

I've googled gothic letters and the first one does look like a G, but I can't think of any British make with the initials GM or even Gill - anyone ??

There's another "Gill" or "GM" sound box (#9) on this page --

I've spotted no references to "Gill", but I have found a few mentioning "GM Gramophone" but not in relation to any specific brand or manufacturer.

Ah, I have now found references to "Golden Melody" gramophones ! This could be mystery solved - does anyone have one, or a photo of one with a GM soundbox ??
