Hello everyone and my name is Grover, I've been viewing this forum on and off since 2021 when I became interested in phonographs at age 12. I sort of forgot about it around 2023 but remembered after a girl in my school was telling me about it. I have an account here now.

My collection consists of just a modern AT and 2 pieces of garbage- but since I'm in Detroit, which I think is one of the best selections of records in the country, I've been picking from People's Records- which has a great selection of 33,45,78, from every time frame. At the moment I have around 500 records. All organized alphabetically by artist. I currently use metal record racks secured to a multi-layer wooden cabinet.

I'd be happy to post some photos of my collection if anyone is interested, In 78's collect mostly blues, jazz, swing, rags, music my great-grandpa was listening to

I don't really know much about "phonographs"- or the wind-up players 78's were originally designed for.

Anyway, thanks for this resource and sorry it took so long to join finally!

Grover! Great to have you on board. Yes, Motown should be a most excellent source of quality shellac and vinyl.
Yes, this is mainly a wind up acoustical phonograph/ gramophone forum, but I am proud to be one of a small group of heretics here who also dabbles in early electrical pickups and amplification, with a real weakness for late 20s- mid 30s record changers. Don't tell anyone here about that, though. Also please don't mention my 1958 Telefunken stereo console or my Magnavox tube type AM/FM/stereo changer wall unit project that I hope to finish up this winter. :D

Also- like Inigo said... let's see some of your collection!

this post has got me thinking: Did Motown Records or Berry Gordy ever release any 78s?

Maybe Gordy, but Motown was established in 1959 I think, so too late.
