Please have a look at the photo of the box and contents. The box has an Edison label on it that states it held an Edison Diamond Reproducer. Any chance any items of are original to this box? It's a C reproducer and carriage that looks brand new. Also a gear cover that also looks brand new. I don't know what the ring is that looks like pot metal. The reproducer fits exactly in it. Is it some sort of adapter and if so for what?

parts look like from an Edison Standard, the pot metal ring allows the use of the reproducer you have there to be used on a horizontal carriage, the roller coaster is a gear cover for a standard probably.

Yes, from an Amberola Attachment for a Standard. I have one like it marked "Dia. B" on the end.
The gear cover, Reproducer, and small bits are the original 2-minute parts that were removed when the Attachment was installed.

I want to make sure I understand, so please bear with me.
George, if I understand you correctly, none of the parts are original to the box. Rather the box originally held a diamond reproducer that was made for a Standard, I guess some sort of upgrade for a Standard. When the diamond disc was installed on a Standard two-minute machine, some Standard parts were removed and the installer smartly put them in the shipping box.
Have I got that right?
Thanks to both of you for the quick response.
John
CXN: I so used to saying "diamond disk" that I always rattle of disk. I should have written just "diamond reproducer."
Is it possible I could see what the original contents of the shipping box? I'd like to see what a diamond reproducer upgrade kit looked like.

Re: Edison Diamond Reproducer shipping box and contents
This is making sense to me now. I suspect the box held the gearing and gear cover to convert a two-minute machine to a two- and four-minute machine. And I suspect the new diamond reproducer only played four-minute cylinders. And so the pot metal adapter ring was so one could use the old C reproducer on the new horizontal carriage to play two-minute cylinders. If that's correct, the only part that originally came in the box was the adapter ring.
This box is a nice little kit for someone who has a Standard with a diamond reproducer and wants to retro-convert back to a two-minute machine and vice versa. Rather historical--and smart of the first owner who kept the original parts to his Standard in the shipping box.
