Restoring an Edison Speaking Tube?

Is it possible to restore this Edison speaking tube? The cloth "skin" is completely deteriorated. The mouthpiece is good and I have the other end. I was wondering if there is a cloth covering similar to what was used originally out there and if someone has done this. I was thinking that some sort of cloth cable sleeving may work.
Thanks - Mike

I don't know if there are any replica tubes... If you want it to look correct, it would be simpler to find an original in good condition. If you just want to try recording with it, you can find hosing material in the hardware store.

I think I can find a similar material and attempt an inexpensive restoration. There were these three pieces inside the machine which I assume are the end pieces, but I am not sure about the cone-shaped rubber piece. Can someone who has one of these tubes please let me know how it goes together? I don't have another to compare it to.

The cone-shaped rubber piece sits in the Reproducer's tube plate. The rubber ear tube is inserted through the metal cap, then inserted into the rubber piece. The cap is then slid down over the Reproducer's tube plate, where it will help hold the rubber piece in place. Just reverse the position of the metal cap in your picture and you'll have the correct orientation.

The hose material is similar to the hose connection on a Columbia coin-op - spring covered with cloth. I'm not sure who made the coin-op replicas, but it may have been Ken Daencart(?). Someone should know. Otherwise, for purely functional use, CPAP tubing might work.

Check out some of these options for recovering the inner spring core. The last option may be the best, if the right diameter is available.

You might also contact these folks to see if they'll braid a custom covering on your core.
