I saw this a fairly short while ago and thought it was VERY interesting and I liked it a lot.

Then it sold quickly .... for over two and a half thousand pounds.

Does anyone know anything about this gramophone I wonder ????

The price was cheap! Wish I’d got it and I’m sure Steve will feel the same. Perhaps he did get it? This model was discussed here…

Indeed! I never thought I'd see one for sale; well, technically I haven't as its already (under)sold!

Of course, as Carlos and Jamie have already stated, it's Hen's Teeth rare, an all original top-of-the-range Spanish HMV as indicated in the listing and photos (apart from the No.4 soundbox in lieu of its original Exhibition) and complete with original unmolested horn, winder, turntable mat, medallions and most importantly its fantastic original coloured finish. Mercifully, no one has fuzted with it either.

A museum piece! And to think poodling could have hit the button on it!

I've spent more than £10K on several machines already this year but I'd trade all of them for this Spanish machine. I don't have access to my Spanish machine catalogues currently but I know this machine is the top of the very top of the range.......a "14, 15 or 16"? My memory fails me!

I wonder what the chances are that someone like Jose from antiguesdades.com bought this? At least if he did we'd know it will shortly reappear on the market, albeit at 3 to 4 times the purchase price.

Please keep eyes peeled everybody! :D

Hello,

I'm the guilty one. The last one I saw sold in spain was 2'600 euro.

This one has some small issues, but I'm not complaining. Was high on my list of machines I would like to own.

Will send an update when it arrives. this Spanish dealer " art-collector-cat " seems quite large a company. Cat I presume means Catalonia, not the feline.

No guilt needed! Many congratulations on purchasing one of the most coveted Holy Grails of gramophones. Please do share photos of it with us when you get it. The horn is a great survival and obviously original to it. It looks as though it will need a very simple clean and polish, and the same applies to the metalwork.

I find this very surprising. A number of continental dealers I've dealt with rarely ever get Spanish machines of any order for sale, but if they do, they tend to be the cheaper models and in the 2000-2500 Euro range for a tin horn version (not wooden like the Ebay example you have bought), irrespective of the condition and then they sell very quickly. This is the top model and incredibly rare with the added bonus of a wooden horn - I personally prefer the metal horns of Spanish models as they are far more elegant and attractively decorated than the dull British and American counterparts. In stark contrast and apart from the less common two tone wooden horns, most Spanish machines fitted with wooden horns tend to have the straight Victor/HMV imports.

Maybe there is an outside market trade in Spain where people can get lucky and still buy these inexpensively to sell on for a modest profit? I don't know but I'm certainly curious about your statement and perhaps even optimistic that other collectors might find this model eventually.
