I was organizing my records and came across a strange Victrola record. I have many Victor records in various sizes and colors, some with the batwing label and some without, and a few labeled “Victrola” instead of “Victor.” This particular Victrola disc is unique among mine: it’s one‑sided, and the back is labeled Victor rather than being blank or containing another song.

Does anyone know what’s going on with this record and why it’s labeled Victor on the back?

The Victor single sided records with an embossed back are actually quite common. I think I have about a dozen in my collection. There was a post string on this forum about this topic about four years ago --

Thank you for the information! This website is always so helpful and informative.

Although they turn up from time to time, I wouldn’t say they are common, in my experience. After RCA bought VTM in 1929, they adopted the “spiderweb” backplate.
