1931 HMV 102- What pieces am I missing?

Ok, I bought this early 102 the one with the early braking system and I noticed some pieces of the brake were uninstalled. And I’m not sure what I’m missing? I was told I’m missing a C or E clip that holds these pieces together and possibly a spring? I’m sure they go on the post in the second photo but not sure in what order the washers go on also?

I can't describe how the components go together, but while you're waiting for responses, this page contains an image of the braking system installed, if you haven't already seen it --

I used to own a 102--also with the early brake. I remember it was nothing but trouble, and would trip prematurely if the record spun even slightly off-center--which most do to some extent.

I must be one of a very few people who really like this auto-brake and it works perfectly.

My early HMV 102 was the first gramophone I ever had. My mother bought it for me with a few 78 records at a jumble sale at the village hall when I was around 8 years old.

Anyway, if no-one else does I will try to 'dig it out' and take a few photographs tomorrow in the hope that it helps.

Unless of course our colleague 'orthofan' has answered your question with the photograph ?

I see how it would be together but I’m not sure if that straight piece is supposed to slide in to something or if there is a spring I’m missing that hooks at the end? Or the order the washers go in with the pieces? Or the E or C clip that is supposed to hold them in place

Here is an excellent video on the early break. My very favorite 102, I simply love the mechanism....and when set correctly, it's remarkably reliable.

Ok I’m gonna say some captain obvious stuff here since I’m trying to make sense of this stuff…

But the top image is the mech in brake mode and the bottom image is in play mode am I correct?

I noticed if I put the turntable back on it just goes into brake mode but if I tape that piece back it spins and spins. So something about the two pieces that were removed keeps the brake from stopping the turntable until the record is supported to be done…

Interesting…the part I circled fits into the ridged part on the bottom of the turntable. And that’s what Brakes it! Different from the normal friction leather type system I’m used to !
