HMV model 12 cabinet gramophone question s

Hi all
I m currently working on the a/m cabinet gramophone. I am just wondering what the "stand" under the tone arm is for?
I only have the motor board+motor + tonearm reproducer for servicing so I cannot check it in the gramophone case (owner lives a long distance away and it wasn't practical to bring the entire case).
It obviously looks to be a stand for the tonearm to rest on but it looks like it may get caught on the turntable as it nears the end of the record.
Is there anyone with a similar machine with this stand and is familiar with it s function?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

It is to trigger the brake as the needle approaches the runout groove of a record. The brake (which appears to be missing from your machine?) has a two-pronged "fork" type attachment which the vertical "stand" would have triggered. Have a look under the turntable as it might conceivably be "stowed away" under there. Some people pushed the brake out of the way, preferring to use the manual brake instead.

Thanks a million, you are dead right. The auto brake "fork" is there, I just never put the two together.
Thanks for your help.
