Victrola VV III

After The Victor Company stopped making the Victrola VV IV, the Berliner Gramophone Company of Canada Limited continued to distribute a machine similar to the VV IV but used the model designation VV III with the title "Theatre of the Home." There is a conical apparatus on the back right hand corner and I was wondering if somebody might recognize this and tell me what it might be used for.
Best suggestion is from Dave Dazer, a flag holder.

I am glad you got that at the auction. Congrats. No idea what the conical item is.

I wondered what that was for also. I wish I had an answer, but the flag holder idea works just fine. The machine itself is very similar to the VV 1-1 or “Victrolita”, which took the place of the VV-IV in the U.S. catalog with the introduction of the Orthophonic machines.
I didn’t think to look at the auction. Is the bottom open?

Do you think it could be part of some kind of lamp/light?
Or made a small candle holder? Lol

The VV-III that is shown on the Victor Victrola website looks just like a VV-IV, with doors for volume control and id plate mounted on the side, not on the back as is yours.
I do like these small machines, even though their sound is lacking when compared to bigger ones.

I am sure Paul Edie at the Victor Victrola Page would welcome photos of your rare machine, as he is always looking to add information to his website.
Cheers,
Tom

Could it be aftermarket, or was it factory?

Is it in the right position to be a resting place for the reproducer/taper tube when not in use? Like where the needle chuck would rest…
