Thanks for another interesting and informative review! I was particularly interested in the segment on the Amet Echophone. The Echophone you show has a detail I've not seen elsewhere. The wire rest (that runs parallel to the mandrel) for the glass tone arm appears to be partially covered in the remains of a length of white rubber tubing. Do you think the tubing was on the machine when new or was it added at some later date? There also appears to be an odd wire sticking up from the gear box. Any idea of its purpose?
Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments on my Videos. Glad you enjoy them.

On the Echophone, I don't own the machine any more. But at that time, I did, and do now believe that the rubber on the glass tone arm support was original to the machine. It certainly was very, very old, brittle, and fragile on the bar. As to the wire, it traversed through the body of the motor mechanism, came out the other side into a lever. It could be moved up and down. At the time, I thought it may part of a lever to raise and lower the glass tone arm. There was old rubber on part of it too.

Here is a better picture showing both items you are referencing.

Be well!

Thanks for posting the head-on image and your thoughts regarding the rubber tubing. I'd be interested to know if any of the other surviving machines show traces of tubing. Happy Holidays, Wm.
