Gramophone Wiki

With some people from the International Phono Server, we've been working on a Gramophone wiki.

https://gramophonewiki.miraheze.org/m/3

Anyone is allowed to edit the wiki, but it certain pages (like the front page) are protected.

You have to create an account with an email to create new pages, but do not need one to edit pages.

The wiki is pretty bare right now with just some simple pages, so please contribute. It's free, and it's instant. Having a wiki will make a lot of information more accessible to new collectors especially those who do not have access/funds to purchase books. It also is a great way to revise certain topics over time.

Everything that has a link so far should now be hyperlinked together. I think.

Your initiative is commendable, but can you elaborate on the stability aspect of this wiki? My question pertains to the risk of occurrence of something similar to what happened to this forum, i.e., running stranded and unattended, with the risk of disappearing suddenly.

I appreciate your concern, Carlos. Wikis are quite tiny in size. In its current state, the wiki is only 2.4MB excluding images, 14MB with images. That's the size of a singular QR code. Every week I'll make a backup on a USB. In the event something happens, I'd have a fairly recent backup. Though from reading online, Miraheze has had some outages, but never any wipes.

Thanks for explanation!

Seems redundant when the Antique Phonograph Society already has countless valuable resources on their website.

Most of that is paid material.

The 30,000 + pages of documents in the APS online library is indeed open to members. However, the APS Forum is free, and there's a tremendous amount of searchable material there. And - importantly - both of those resources are owned and maintained by an organization rather than an individual.
