Dictaphone Shaver Motor Problems

The Dictaphone shaver that I use at the Thomas Edison Depot Museum died. The motor just quit on me. I know nothing about repairing electric motors. I have an old sewing machine motor and I am seeking advice on if fitting that to the shaver would work.
Any thoughts? I really need a working shaver for our 25th anniversary celebration to be held in June.
Thanks!

Can you provide a picture of the motor? I have two different ones that I was going to sell on ebay this week.

The carbon motor brushes wear out eventually normally noisy just before stopping.
The ballast resistor also goes open circuit but this is more often in the UK as the supply voltage is higher and more resistance is used.
This all needs someone with some electrical knowledge and a multi-meter which out quickly check the wires and switches etc.

I have a Dictaphne machine (not a shaver) in witch the motor main built is in pot metal, and is fully blocked...
May be you have the same with your shaver ?
A hand moved shaver would be more secure...

Dave,
If you'd like to bring it to me I could have a look at it for you.
