Hi All. Just seen this Phonograph? on The Saleroom wesite for auction iin Lincoln over the next 2 days.
What is it? Looks like a Standard on top of a table gramophone.

This is a curiosity that first appeared in The Saleroom to be sold on the 1st January. Obviously it didn’t sell and has reappeared since although I would have thought the cylinder cabinet was worth the estimate alone.

It appears to be an Edison Standard contained within a 1930s made cabinet with maybe an internal horn?? I note the auctioneer has provided even less photos than previously and no photo of the lid actually removed from the phonograph so noone can see what is actually happening as regards the internal horn. The auctioneer has also reduced the description down to give even less information. Not sure what they’re playing at.

Strange concoction. Why would you combine a phonograph to a table model gramophone. Perhaps the Standard was missing its base. How would you connect the two together or perhaps it needed a horn on the Standard as normal??
Very strange.
Maybe someone living nearby can shed more light on this.

I would imagine the sunburst cabinet was made to give the phonograph a modern appearance. If the cabinet contains an internal horn, as the grill suggests, then this may have taken less space than an external horn.

I don’t believe this has the ability to play disc records, there is no gramophone there.
