Wanted: Teddy Bears Picnic'' - Henry Hall & His Orchestra - 1932

I'm in Canada, so if that's a problem, I use a third party address in California (Shipito) that I've used for many years.

I'll start off with 40 US dollars.

Thanks
Jeff

Did you try UK eBay? this record is relatively common, every now and then one shows up for sale.

I did find this here, but it's a bit expensive, and I don't know what kind of site this is.

It looks legitimate, has anyone here bought items from here, have they had any problems ?

Looks like an eBay site, but only for records.

Is your question about Discogs or about this particular seller? Discogs is legitimate, and you’re correct: it’s (among other things) a bit like eBay for records. It’s also a great resource for the technical information on releases, and you can use it to catalog your own collection too.

I’m not familiar with this particular seller, but the seller ratings are usually pretty accurate. You might wish to read through them to see whether there are any negative reviews and why. (Sometimes, negative reviews can be silly, but if you see particular trends—for example, if several people complain about the packaging—it might be a red flag.)

Whilst it's a common record and "shouldn't" command a higher price, it does, being iconic and supposedly a BBC test record for sound back in the day. If you look at the release page on Discogs that copy is at exactly the median price based on sales!

Undoubtedly I have a spare copy but it would take some digging and I'm not sure when I can get round to that, plus I'm in the UK too so there would be shipping to figure in.

I can also vouch for Discogs as a site for buying physical music media. I've been a member for 20 years now and purchased hundreds of records and CD's from it. If you're a vinyl collector it is THE site to buy from. With that said, I haven't found vinyl sellers particularly reliable in terms of condition grading on there; most appear to happily over-grade condition. However, with 78's this is not likely to be so much of an issue but packing might be as someone who sells predominantly vinyl records might not be best positioned to know how to pack something as brittle as shellac.

PS - I do know a man who has probably over a hundred versions of Teddy Bear's Picnic on 78 / vinyl / cassette / you-name-it-format so if you are looking for this I can happily contact him to ask if he can spare one.

It should be noted that FB2816 is not the original issue of this recording. It was released in 1950/51.
The original issue of 1932 was DB955, and is harder to find.

My wife collects children's records, and in particular the Teddy Bears' Picnic. She has over 30 versions on 78, including Henry Hall on both DB955 and DB2818, plus the Blue Amberol cylinder which is also hard to find in the UK.

OK
If I get the one pictured in my first post, I'll be happy, when ever the release date is.

So if the one in the video (FB2816) is not from 1932, it was released in 50/51 ?
I'm a bit confused.

EDIT:
I get it now, released in 1932 and re-released in 1950.

Here's the listing from Disgogs:

https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/3899718034?ev=bp_det

The seller wants £25.00 to ship to Canada and £29.25 for the 79 (1950 version).
Is it worth your time to dig it out and what is the condition, it's described as VG+ on Discogs ?

The other concern is how well will it be wrapped by the seller at Discogs.

When I ship 78's they are in a sleeve, then in between 2 pieces of heavy cardboard or even thin door skin plywood.
Then that's put into a larger box full of packing.

EDIT:
Then there's this, while the seller at Discogs has some history of poor wrapping and other problems, this guy on eBay has 100% feed back.
Looks like the seller on Discogs is out of the picture, I would rather pay more for shipping than risk the record being broken or lost.
