Many thanks! I think it sounds very good. While it doesn't deliver the mid-range "umph" of the smaller Orthophonic models--or even the 1-70--I think it does a credible job eliminating what I call the "mica tone" and upper range "peaking" and provides a nice smooth balance of sound.

As you probably know, in addition to fitting it to the 1-70 table model, and portables, Victor offered its No. 4 sound box to customers who wanted to upgrade their existing Victrolas to play the new electrically recorded records. Because of it's hefty price of $5 at the time -- nearly $92.00 in today's money -- I'd guess that not many were sold for this purpose. Come to think of it, I've never come across an as-found Victrola model fitted with the #4 sound box in place of the original Exhibition or No. 2 sound box.

Yea I have never come across any Victrola that had a No. 4 or 4 A soundbox. it’s always been the number 2 or an exhibition.
