RCA Victor Selectavision Glorified Phonograph Thing

Post by PeanutTheRabbit »

So, I guess this would be the final and absolute peak of the phonograph evolutionary phase, I picked this up yesterday, and like any good phonograph, it needed some grease and it was good to go.

Pretty rare to find these in any condition, so when I saw this one at the local antique store I just had to pick it up. It plays 60 minutes of a movie, per side (A and B just like a normal record) and it uses a diamond tip stylus/needle to play a grooved capacitive electric vinyl disc. Very odd, and very neat tech. (Apologies if this is in the wrong area).

Did you buy the 4 or 500 of them for $1 at the Stanton auction some years back?

I never had one but a friend did. For the time they had a sharp, clear picture and lots of great movies. Some of the movies available didn’t come out in other formats for a very long time. Too bad the styluses wore out so fast. I went laser disc.

No Jerry. I did not buy 4-500 of them at Stanton's a few years back.
